Listening to Be Heard

If I want to be heard then I need to be a listener.  I can usually cool the worst hot heads if I can assure them they have been listened to. A child who has the temperament of a “hot head”  can learn to manage their anger more easily if they receive a sense of knowing what they think counts.

This is different than a kid who uses emotion to distract and control the conversation.   They know when they’re heard, they know when we value them as a person, whether they’re right or wrong.   See reflective listening…They internally also know when we are fair, even if they don’t admit it. We know when someone is willing to wait for the balance of picture.
The listener gains rights and license to speak.    The wise parent knows when they have listened and when the child is manipulating.
