I listened to my four and a half year old grandson repeat almost everything said in a conversation word for word. He imitated their voice inflection, pauses, tone, humor, sarcasm and punch lines. It was almost scary. He wasn’t feeling their feelings because he’d not been in the situations the adults were discussing but he was “catching” the big picture without even knowing it. The bid picture was attitudes, ways to think believe, understand and perceive the people, places and things around them. He was in essence becoming what we are without ever yet living in the situation. Help Thru parenting will post several topics on this issue about how we can model and train healthy responses to the everyday root of child development. It is also possible to UN-train the bad learning.
